The K-pop singer has been chosen to perform at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar on November 20. According to a tweet from the seven-piece group, he will also contribute to the World Cup soundtrack.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off on November 20 with Qatar’s match versus Ecuador. A total of 32 teams from various countries will take part. On December 18, the winning squad will be proclaimed World Cup champion.

Jung Kook has recently released a number of solo tracks. Following the June release of BTS’ anthology album Proof, the vocalist gave the solo tune “My You” to ARMY. Earlier this year, he collaborated with BTS’s Suga on the ballad “Stay Alive,” which appeared on the official soundtrack to HYBE’s original webtoon, 7FATES: CHAKHO. Jung Kook released his first single, “Still With You,” as part of BTS’ annual Festa party in 2020.

The joyful news comes after BTS’ RM announced that his debut solo album, Indigo, will be released on December 2. RM’s upcoming release comes just days after fellow BTS member Jin released his own solo track, “The Astronaut,” which is currently No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100.

On Twitter, BTS announced Jung Kook’s participation in the 2022 World Cup.
